One of my favorite quotes comes from Gardner and writer, Marc Hammer, in his book Spring Rain – “I like to follow the path that nature gives me…I adapt and enjoy and refuse to fight the things that can’t be fought, I let go of questions that can’t be answered and instead push at doors that fall upon to my touch…I have worked hard, tried hard, learned that life has flow and that resisting it brings problems. I’ve known people who fight too hard for what they want – fighting and wanting become a way of life and they never stop and never get happy. I ride streams that are going my way, share moments with people who are friendly…cut the grass when the sun shines, shelter when it rains, and so on.”
This quote always brings me such comfort. It’s nice to know someone out there is looking to strive less and find a more natural approach, like nature itself. Nature is very wise, she gets it done every season.
Striving, exhaustion, and goals themselves can be status symbols in our modern way of life. Such a human impulse: find something to work hard for, get the precious wanted thing, find something else to want, and so on.
Let’s try that cycle another way today:
Such a human impulse: to find simple pleasures, connect with others, and enjoy ourselves. Only to feel so good about who we are we can go out and enjoy our surroundings and be present with people who enjoy it too.
Give it a try today!
